Get a glimpse of Cherokee daily life with Mecca Caron’s presentation of hands-on demonstrations using a konana (Cherokee corn grinding stump and pounder).Discuss traditional dishes that would have used corn ground in this manner.Several Cherokee words will be taught orally as the participants do the hands-on activity (grinding and sifting of the corn).With slate boards, participants will be taught several written words in the Cherokee syllabary, a written form of the Native language first recorded by Sequoyah.
