General Jackson welcomed many important visitors to The Hermitage throughout his life. Continuing his tradition, the Hermitage staff provides an enjoyable experience to all our guests. As you review our tour information and variety of tour packages, keep in mind that we can customize any tour or meal to meet your needs.

Group Tour Policy
Groups are graciously welcomed to The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson. Groups must be of 15 or more to receive the group rate and advance reservations are required. For information on The Hermitage F.I.T. Program contact the Marketing Department at 615-889-2941, ext. 223 or

The Hermitage offers a variety of tour options for school groups that help students meet today’s education standards. From Hands-on-History Classes to regular tours The Hermitage has a program to suit your needs.

Jackon's Bedroom
The Hermitage is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The site is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the third week in January. Tours are self-guided except at the Hermitage mansion where guides in period dress meet you. Tours include a 15 minute introductory film, exhibits of Jackson and Hermitage artifacts, and special changing exhibits. You can also visit original slave cabins, Jackson’s tomb, the Hermitage garden, and the Hermitage Church. The mansion tour takes approximately 20 minutes, but we suggest allowing two hours for your guests to enjoy all The Hermitage has to offer or one hour for the mansion tour only.

Museum Store
The Hermitage Museum Store carries a wide selection of unique gifts, books, and souvenirs for all ages. Be sure to allow time for your group to visit the store. You can also click here to visit our online store.

Hermitage Parlors
The Hermitage is just 20 minutes from downtown Nashville and 5 miles from the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center and the Nashville International Airport. Take I-40 East to exit 221.

Parking
Parking at The Hermitage is free. This site is easily accessible for buses and motor coaches. Coaches unload and load guests at the entrance of the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center and then park in the Bus Parking Lot.

Tour Tips

  • Ask questions and take full advantage of The Hermitage’s friendly and well trained staff.
  • The majority of your tour will be spent outdoors so dress comfortably according to the weather.
  • Your tour will require moderate walking so wear comfortable shoes.
  • To fully enjoy your tour plan on spending anywhere from two to four hours at The Hermitage. Note that the last tickets to tour the mansion are sold at 4:30 p.m.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center or in the Hermitage mansion, except water bottles with the lids tightly sealed.
  • If you plan on bringing your own lunch, picnic tables are available in the courtyard outside the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center and at the Hermitage Church.
  • You are welcome to bring your camera and video camera, but please note that photography and video recording are not permitted in the Hermitage mansion and in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center Gallery.
  • For your safety and security, all backpacks, camera bags, and large bags must remain in your vehicle. Any items worn or carried are subject to search.

Two Hour Itinerary
  1. Watch the introductory film at the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center. 20 minutes
  2. Tour the exhibits in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center (or do this at the end of your tour). 20 minutes
  3. Walk to and tour the Hermitage mansion. 35 minutes
  4. Walk through the Hermitage Garden and visit Rachel and Andrew Jackson’s tomb. 20 minutes
  5. Visit Alfred’s Cabin. 10 minutes
  6. Return to the Visitor Center and stop by the Museum Store. 15 minutes
Four Hour Itinerary
  1. Watch the introductory film at the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center. 20 minutes .
  2. Tour the exhibits in the Andrew JacksonVisitor Center (or do this at the end of your tour). 40 minutes
  3. Walk to and tour the Hermitage mansion. 35 minutes
  4. Walk through the Hermitage Garden and visit Rachel and Andrew Jackson’s tomb. 25 minutes
  5. Visit Alfred’s Cabin. 15 minutes
  6. Walk the Field Quarter Trail. 45 minutes
  7. Return to the Visitor Center and stop by the Museum Store. 30 minutes
Special Needs

The Hermitage welcomes special needs visitors. For visitors needing just a little extra help, The Hermitage has a golf cart available to transport visitors from the Andrew Jackson Center to the Hermitage mansion. Wheelchairs are available for those unable to walk around the grounds. The Andrew Jackson Visitor Center, with the introductory film, exhibit gallery, gift shop, and Garden Gate Café is completely accessible. Hermitage pathways are smooth asphalt and there is a ramped entrance to the garden. The Hermitage mansion is accessible on the first floor and a photographic tour of the second floor is available for our visitors unable to climb stairs. Motorized and non-motorized wheelchairs are welcome in the mansion; however, the size of the interior spaces prevents the use of motorized scooter chairs in the mansion. If necessary, visitors can transfer to a wheelchair provided by The Hermitage for their mansion visit. Assistance animals are always welcome. Printed mansion and film scripts are available for those with hearing problems.

Language

For visitors who do not speak English, The Hermitage has printed translations of the Hermitage mansion tour in Spanish, German, French, Dutch, and Japanese. The Hermitage welcomes foreign language interpreters.
