President's Cup Golf Tournament

President's Cup Golf Tournament

Blue skies and fair temperatures made for a perfect day on the links at Hermitage Golf Course on Monday, October 20th for the 4th annual President’s Cup golf tournament benefiting the education and preservation programs of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. We were pleased to recognize Walter Knestrick as honorary chair. Walter’s charismatic nature and enthusiasm for the Hermitage make him a delight to work with. He and his wife Sarah are longtime supporters and we are grateful for their friendship. Golfers began checking in around 10:00 a.m. to have plenty of time for all of the pre-tournament activities – driving range, putting contest, delicious lunch, and using their tournament gift of a Nike Bucks voucher to shop at the on-site Nike tournament discount store (the only one of its kind in the nation!).

The carts were lined up and ready to roll for the 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. A good level of competition prevailed and we received many comments about the excellent condition of the course on President’s Reserve at Hermitage Golf Course. Throughout the afternoon, tournament volunteers driving two beverage carts made sure that all of our golfers had plenty to drink and snack on. Beer was donated by Ajax Turner Company.

After finishing play, golfers enjoyed a sumptuous New Orleans-style dinner and bid on an array of auction items while the score cards were tallied. Award results are listed below.

We are also immensely grateful to Lexus of Nashville and Mr. J. R. Roper for again serving as our Hole-in-One sponsor and donating an incredible auction item. Each Lexus dealership across the country has the opportunity to choose a charity partner for the Lexus Champions for Charity program. The dealership donates a silent auction item, with minimum bid of $5,000, whereby the winner and a friend gain eligibility to compete in the Lexus National Champions for Charity tournament at famed Pebble Beach. The three-day 54-hole tournament includes competition on all three of the beautiful Pebble Beach courses – Pebble Beach, Spy Glass Hill, and Spanish Bay. The only way to participate in the lavish tournament is to be the winner of the Lexus silent auction item at one of the Lexus sponsored charity tournaments around the country. And if we are as lucky as we were two years ago, our winning golfer, Mr. Steve Hewlett, may play well enough at Pebble Beach to also bring us a share of the charity purse from the national tournament. We could win as much as $7,000 additional prize money! Many thanks to Lexus and J. R. Roper for this very valuable opportunity!

And now, without further ado . . . here are the awards results for President’s Cup 2014, followed by a complete listing of sponsors and donors.
