Volunteering is a meaningful way to give back to your community. At The Hermitage, volunteers participate in bringing history to life for our guests while exploring the larger-than-life personality of Jackson, the era named after him, and the beautiful plantation he called home!

Our next volunteer orientation will be held on Saturday, October 11th, 2014 beginning at 9:00 am.  Attendees will be given a staff-led mansion tour, followed by sessions designed to introduce volunteers to all the areas of the museum that require volunteer service. We will also practice visitor services skills and discuss how to get involved in special projects. Refreshments will be provided. To register for the volunteer orientation, please reserve a seat by April 22! Contact Erin Adams by email or by phone at 615-889-2941 ext. 243.

Projects for large groups can include trash pickup, painting, cleaning, fencing repairs, and prop construction for special events. We can tailor any opportunity to the group's time restraints and abilities and interests. Volunteer days include a tour of the mansion and a few small thank you gifts. A background check is required before starting volunteer service.

Volunteer Orientation is offered monthly and is required to begin volunteering at The Hermitage. The Orientation will last approximately four hours and be followed by a tour. Because of the time and effort involved in training volunteers, we ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of two four hour shifts a month. After 40 hours volunteered, volunteers will receive benefits with The Hermitage!

A Hermitage volunteer who has completed 40 hours of service enjoys free admission to the grounds and buildings during regular working hours. They also enjoy a 10% discount in the Museum Store – a wonderful resource for unique gifts and memorabilia! Of course, by volunteering at The Hermitage, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Andrew Jackson, a pivotal figure in American history, and the Jacksonian era while helping guests learn the lessons of history at The Hermitage.
