Volunteering is a meaningful way to give back to your community. At The Hermitage, volunteers get to participate in bringing history to life for our guests while exploring the larger-than-life personality of Jackson, the era named after him, and the beautiful plantation he called home!
VOLUNTEERING:
We are currently filling the following volunteer positions:
· Breezeway Greeter 1/ Group Greeter
The Breezeway Greeter/Group Greeter is stationed in Breezeway. Their main responsibilities are to greet visitors as they come up or down breezeway, assist with directions, answering any questions, and explaining tour options, assist Ticket Office in directing people to specific windows, encourage comment card use, uphold policies of Hermitage. In addition, this person greets groups that come to The Hermitage; directs them on the best process for their tour, answers questions, etc. This positions reports to the Guest Services Manager. Positions are available daily during working hours.
· Breezeway Greeter 2/Transportation
The Breezeway Greeter/Transportation Volunteer is stationed in Breezeway. Their main responsibilities are to greet visitors as they come up or down breezeway, assist with directions, answering any questions, and explaining tour options, assist Ticket Office in directing people to specific windows, encourage comment card use, uphold policies of Hermitage. In addition, this person answers calls for rides to/from the Mansion on the golf cart. Valid Driver’s license is required. This person reports to the Guest Services Manager. Positions are available during working hours.
· Mansion Volunteer
The Mansion Volunteer is stationed at back porch of Mansion or in other areas around Mansion as needed and will assist guests with questions, directions, concerns as needed. This position reports to the Interpretation Manager. Positions are available daily during open hours.
· Gardens Volunteer
Volunteer Gardeners will assist gardening department by planting, weeding, watering, etc. in Hermitage garden, vegetable garden, around the Andrew Jackson center, Administration building and other areas of site as needed. This position reports to the Head Gardener. Positions are available daily during season.
· Special Events Volunteer
Special events volunteers work periodically throughout the year (as your schedule allows) when The Hermitage has an event planned for the public. Duties vary but may consist of greeting visitors for the event, staffing educational activity stations, or assisting with crowd control. Events may take place on weekends, weekdays, or evenings. Some of the events these volunteers will work include the Battle of New Orleans Commemoration, Andrew Jackson's Birthday Celebration, and Hauntings at the Hermitage. This position reports to the Director of Public Programs & Volunteers.

Your application will be reviewed and accepted candidates will be invited to the next Volunteer Orientation.
Volunteer Orientation is offered monthly and is required to begin volunteering at The Hermitage. The Orientation will last approximately four hours and be followed by a tour. Because of the time and effort involved in training volunteers, we ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of two four hour shifts a month. After 40 hours volunteered, volunteers will receive benefits with The Hermitage!

VOLUNTEER BENEFITS:
A Hermitage volunteer who has completed 40 hours of service enjoys free admission to the grounds and buildings during regular working hours. They also enjoy a 10% discount in the Museum Store – a wonderful resource for unique gifts and memorabilia! Of course, by volunteering at The Hermitage, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Andrew Jackson, a pivotal figure in American history, and the Jacksonian era while helping guests learn the lessons of history at The Hermitage.
